Hiatus

I'm sorry but I forgot to mention that the 'cast (I'm calling it "the 'cast" now by the way) will be on hiatus until Sunday.  For now you can get your weather from the lovable scamp, Al Roker.

Revelation

While doing my forecast last night I realized I had forgotten a basic law of dynamics that I probably learned on the 3rd day of class but for some reason was escaping me.  I got out my old notes, and after examining them realized 3 things:  I have no clue how I passed half my classes; meteorologists, for some reason, love breaking U.S. copyright laws; and I used to be able to get by on much less sleep.  Seriously, I remember being able to stay awake for like 52 straight hrs and be just fine.  Now if I only get 6 hrs of sleep I feel like I should stick both my arms out in front of me and moan "Brains, brains" over and over again.  But I digress. . .

Today's weather can be summed up in one word:  moist (which is also the dirtiest word in the English language and the reason I'm using it in today's dirty, dirty forecast)  A cold front stretching from Atlanta to Quebec is slowly making its way northeast.  That front, coupled with a strong southeast wind off the Atlantic, will team up for what proves to be a long day of steady rain.  And don't rule out the possibility of a random t-storm or downpour of felines and canines (figuratively, of course).  Temperatures in the mid 50s (56) with SE winds around 12 mph.

Tonight doesn't get any better as that front takes its sweet time crossing New England. Temperatures, at least, won't drop too much.  Evening temps around 51-52 dropping down to 48 by morning.  Unfortunately, the rain will probably continue on through most of the night.  Somebody's got a case of the Mondays.

Sunday

It appears that my skillz are coming back.  Rain should be ending late this morning, the clouds will still be hanging out though so don't go crazy.  Temps will stay on the cool side; I'm going with mid 50s.  Expect another round of rain late tonight, probably overnight and tomorrow.

High: 57 clouds all day

Redemption

I'm going to make this short but sweet because I have to go to work and this blog does not pay the bills.

Much cooler today as the cold front approaches.  Clouds throughout the day but I think the rain should hold off until late tonight . . . like Taco Bell, it's going to be midnight or later.  There's a chance we may get a decent amount of rain so if you plan on going out tonight and being a rockstar make sure to bring your rockumbrella.  Highs: mmm let's say 63.   Lows:  going with 48.

Oops

Alright, I may have been a little off on my temps for today.  I admit I'm a tad rusty.  I'm sorry if I ruined anyone's day.  I will now take comments and criticisms.

First Remote Forecast

I've been requested by readers of Samcast to make weekend forecasts for Seattle and Madison.  While I will not be able to make forecasts for everyone who requests them, the two individuals that requested them have offered me compensation.  One of my friends has promised to promote me on her blog and the other, my wife, made me guac tonight.  With that said:

Seattle:  It looks like Seattle should be nice this weekend.  Saturday looks ok, although rain is a bit more likely on Sunday and Monday as some good ol' Pacific moisture rolls in.  I know I know, I'm really going out on a limb forecasting rain in Seattle.  Temps ok, highs in the 60s lows in the 40s.  Let me know how I do!

Madison:  While NY might have given me an easy forecast, Madison gave me an almost unpossible one.  All sorts of mid-level shenanigans and unruly jet-streaks and whatnot.  It all boils down to this. . . I'm really not sure.  Usually when I'm really not sure I go to the NWS local forecast and see if they can give me any insight.  You know what they said for this weekend?  30% of rain.  Come on!!!  Basically that is the official way for a meteorologist to say "umm... yeah".  Well, I'm going to do better than that.  I'm going to say it IS going to rain, sorry Mags.  None of this 30% crap.  Hopefully it will hold off until Sunday but don't get your hopes up.  Highs around 50 and lows in the mid 30s.

First Forecast

It appears as though the weather gods have smiled upon me.  They're going to make my first forecast back a relatively easy one.  Or so I hope:

There's currently a ginormous ridge of high pressure over most of the eastern US, giving us these delightful, albeit, Al Gore-esque temperatures.  The ridge will slowly move eastward over the next 24 hrs.  Temperatures will go down a bit in the evening and overnight hours... it is fairly dry so once the sun goes down the temperatures will as well.  I'm going to say evening temps around 60 dipping to a low of 48 by morning.

Tomorrow should be a virtual clone of today. Maybe not quite as warm but still very nice and sunny.  High pressure is still the man, but a cold front is approaching.  Temps will warm up pretty quick and I'm going for highs in the mid 70s throughout the afternoon with a nice southerly breeze; let's say 5-10 mph.  Evening temperatures will again drop off into the low 60's but we may see some clouds roll in as the front approaches. . . see, isn't this easy?

Evening:  Clear; low 60s; light N winds.

Overnight:  Clear; Low: 48; light E winds.

Tomorrow: Sunny; High 76;  SE winds 5-10 mph.

First Post

After being out of the "weather game" for quite some time, I've decided to jump back in and redevelop my skills.  I'm putting my forecasts in a blog format so people can ask questions and possibly, if you're nice, get forecasts for upcoming days/locations.  This way everyone can tell me how good (or bad) I'm doing.  Plus, blogging is much easier and I'll be able to show how my forecasts are so much better than anyone else's.

My goal is to provide family and friends (or any other schmuck) with an informative and, hopefully, entertaining interpretation of the weather.
